On Second Thought

We enjoyed about a day and a half of good recovery before hitting a wall. Tuesday night (a few hours after Devin and Clara boarded their plane) Jonas began complaining of pain. Simply lifting his legs to change his diaper caused him to scream. Wednesday was not any better. He then began running a fever. Post surgery fevers are never welcomed (not that any fever is ever welcomed but this is my new least favorite fever category).

Wednesday night into Thursday morning was rough on Jonas and caused me to email his neurosurgeon. While he may not be a man of many words, I really appreciate him. Dr. Jallo and I had corresponded 4 times before 7am. He decided he needed to see Jonas. I canceled his other appointments and took him in. Here is the run down...the fever and discomfort are due to one or more of the following:

1. Urinary Tract Infection from the catheter after surgery
2. Incision is infected
3. Cerebral Spinal Fluid is infected

I'll take #1 and leave the rest, thanks! Preliminary lab work will be back tomorrow and give us an idea of what we are looking at.

The bad news is that an hour after his appointment (once I made it home through a huge mess of traffic with Baltimore preparing for the Grande Prix to a baby who really really really wanted to eat) Jonas' back began to leak fluid. Not a good sign.

After some more email exchanges with the surgeon, we are supposed to see how his back is in the morning. We may be headed back to the hospital to get to the bottom of this. I really hope not. So...feel free to keep the prayers coming. :) Apparently my "better" post was a bit premature.

  2. Melinda, I am so sorry! This is not what you...or Jonas need right now! We will definitely keep praying. I'll check in tomorrow. I hope they can figure out what it is soon and treat it without him ending up in the hospital again. Love you!

  3. Thinking of you- hope you get some answers soon. I hope this is the only time I ever say "I hope Jonas has a urniary tract infection"! You're doing great- hopefully this will all just be a bad memory soon. Much love from us- stay strong.
